I love our living room furniture we purchased back in June, but it needed a little pick me up. I still had the pillows that came with it, I just hadn't found any toss pillows that I really loved yet. A couple nights ago, I was staring at my living room wondering WHY I didn't like it. I liked my furniture, my rug, my cabinets, antiques, everything...except the pillows! I take that back, I do like them, but they were to matchy matchy on the sofas. I scanned my room, and borrowed from other areas, and this is what I came up with. It only took me about five minutes, and now I can use the original pillows on my leather chairs downstairs. Change doesn't have to take a lot of time, or cost a lot of money.

The proof is in the pictures...

This is my couch before. I love the brown and creme tweed pillows, they just were too matchy matchy. So I scanned the room. Here's what I came up with...

I left the brown herringbone pillows that match the couch. I guess they are really more of a mocha, but anyway. Then I borrowed this great wool blanket from the chair. I had a couple of old blue ticking pillows tucked in a basket. This one found a cozy home right here.

The other blue ticking pillow got tossed on my loveseat with this cream throw.

I love the simple result and added color of the blue ticking. If you aren't happy with a certain area of your home, try sprucing it up with simple things you may already have.

Garlands...a decorators best friend!

I use my basic burlap garland at home ALL the time! This season I have gotten in a few variations of the burlap garland.

It is great on a tree or hung in a swag with greens, but there is so many more creative uses! Here are some of my favorite ways to use it...

My go to way, around a chair with greenery and an ornament. Here I used the jute garland with a sprig of fresh greenery and a wax boot ornament. At home I have also done this for an Autumn themed dinner party with basic burlap garland and wild sunflowers.

Who is going to toss this wrapping in the waste basket....no friend of mine!

If you don't have a festive runner, turn one of yours over and simply lay the fabric garland of your choice down the center. Add a fun centerpiece, and you have a festive tablescape your guests (and you) will love!

In the shop, I usually use homespun to tie back the curtains. This was a nice change. You could also add a single ornament, sleigh bells, or greenery. Just get creative! This can be used on any textile, not just burlap. Use the basic burlap garland on a solid drapery for immediate contrast of colors and textures.

Tis the Season...to be busy that is! I am finally getting around to sharing some photos from the recent Christmas Gathering. It was wonderful! Sneak Peek at the Christmas Gathering!

It has been such a busy crazy couple months that I haven't been able to update my blog! I am now busy getting ready for next weekends Christmas Gathering. It is my favorite open house of the year, and this year is going to be the best one yet! I have been hustling and bustling to find the most amazing folk art, santas, christmas decor, wool, and antiques. Never before have I been so excited about the Christmas folk art!

I love these iron pumpkins! I have them in small,and large sizes.

They look great with a flicker candle behind them and can sit anywhere! You can use these all fall and even up to thanksgiving!

My line of candles,potpourri, and pods are also a favorite this fall!

The pods look wonderful in a wooden bowl, dough bowl, or tote.

I have been selling out of them as fast as I get them in the shop, so make sure you pick yours up this weekend!

These wonderful pine cone garlands can take you right in until Christmas!

I am using mine as a valance over my burlap curtains.

You can add berry picks or bittersweet for fall and fresh evergreens for Christmas and winter.

Harvest Gathering

Thanks to all of you that came out to my annual Harvest Gathering! It was such a beautiful day and we had a wonderful turnout!

My front porch was all decorated for fall.....I even sold the basket off my front door to one lucky costumer!

Inside I was bursting with fall garland, floral picks, candles, folk art, and my usual collection of primitives.

my garage was also open with lots of goodies!

Dough Bowls

Aren't wooden dough bowls amazing?

Using dough bowls is a great way to decorate for the fall. I can never get enough of these!

They have to be one of the best investment pieces you will ever buy because you will be able to reinvent them again and again!

One of the bowls in my store currently, I have filled with potpourri and a scoop.

You can also fill it with potpourri and have a wonderful 4 wick candle in the center.

Many of the bowls show signs of use such as worm holes, distress, and metal repairs. I personally love the ones with the metal repairs!

One very hot look right now is to use old books with the covers torn off or pages from old books rolled and tied with twine.

You will see this look in many stores such as Pottery Barn.

If you want a more contemporary or industrial look, add lots of pulleys with rope

(like you will find hanging next door at The Goods)!

You can also fill them with gourds, pumpkins, or pine cones.

This is my moms dough bowl on her kitchen table. She has filled it with angle vine, gourds, and bittersweet.

At Christmas, fill with evergreens and large mercury glass ornaments.

A duck decoy also looks right at home.

Once you have invested in your dough bowl. Make sure to care for it properly.

Use a mild soap and water to gently wipe off.

Oil your bowl with mineral oil and never use vegetable oil as it can become rancid.

Enjoy your dough bowls for many, many years!

Nebraska Cottage Company's Bungalow Court...beauty personified!

I stopped by the finished "Bungalow Court" today. It is simply stunning! Kelly Langer, great friend & camp; resident goofball, came up with the concept of the bungalow court, and planted it in Village Gardens. I love this area of Lincoln. It is full of beautiful homes and fun local shopping. I sometimes convince my hubby to just drive through the neighborhood in the evening.

The Bungalow Court provides neighboors with a shared front courtyard, perfect for gatherings. The drives and garages are in the back, I LOVE this idea. It really makes the curb appeal fantastic! The best part about the cottages? They are so affordable, without compromising any style or quality!

I just love them!

Old, New, Cool...The Goods. So excited that my new neighboor has opened. Hours will be the same as mine (how convenient)! M-W-F 12:30-5:00 and Saturday 10:00-5:00. The Goods is a great compliment to Nelly's Nest with lots of vintage "flair"! Stop in and meet the shop owner Kaydra soon!

This is such a great collection of old ropes and pulleys. I've seen similar items in contemporary, vintage, and antique decor. They would be so cool wound up in a extra large dough bowl

With a new shop next door, I too felt inspired to change the shop a bit (or a bunch). I unloaded a very FULL truck today. I still have some arranging to do, but it's taking shape.

Old Summit Country Antique Show

If you are in need of something fun for this weekend, I STRONGLY recommend the Old Summit Country Antique show in Lee's Summit, MO. It is a one day show Saturday, June 25th from 9:00-5:00 at the John Knox Pavilion. The pavilion is located at 400 NW Murray Road, Lee's Summit, MO. My shop will be closed in order to participate in the show. Hopefully some of you will be joining me there!

Colonial Beeswax Fruit

I wish there was such thing as smell-a-vision, because the shop smells wonderful! The beeswax fruit has exceeded my expectations! It is so colonial and fragrant. Of course, I had to keep a big bowl full for myself at home :)

Today is a beautiful day and I am taking full advantage of it and am out buying lots of new things for the store! I usually love this time of year. Things are slowing down after the holidays, and I love spending Valentine's day with my hubby, Justin. This year has been busier than ever. I have been moving, remodeling a house, and Justin has been in Iraq for 5 months now. So today when I went to the shop, I wasn't looking forward to it. I had an AWESOME day! It's amazing what God can do when you have some peace and quiet to think. Rearranging the shop was so theraputic today, and I just LOVE the Valentine's goodies I got in. I am also getting so excited because Justin is going to visit this month! YAY! Valentine's day with my hubby!
